CAMP TURNING POINTS 2012 info is HERE!
Dear Alcott Parents and Students,
Camp Turning Points is Norman Public Schools’ orientation program for incoming 6th graders. This year it will be held on Tuesday, August 21, at each middle school in town. Registration in the Alcott Cafeteria will begin at 8:05, at tables separated by the following groups: A-D, E-K, L-Q, R-Z. Bus routes will run that morning to get your student to school, and we strongly urge you to allow your child to attend, as it will be a great day to prepare them for the school year beginning the very next day!
We recognize that the transition from elementary school to middle school can be a difficult one for both parents and students. Even for the most self-assured 6th grader some anxiety is involved.
This camp is a collaborative effort of NPS and community supporters to help students become comfortable at their new sites. Camp Turning Points designed specifically for incoming 6th grade students helps orient them to middle school experiences, gives them some coping skills, and provides a sense of self-assurance as they embark on this crucial stage of their school career.
Students should dress comfortably in cool attire and wear tennis shoes. We would like for every student to have a Camp Turning Points T-shirt. The cost of the T-Shirt will be $4.00 payable at school enrollment. Students will be able to purchase lunch for $2.00, or may bring a sack lunch. For registration a student either needs $4.00 and a lunch, or $6.00.
Included with this letter is an agenda for the day and a registration form. The forms need to be returned to Alcott by June 1, 2012 to ensure a reservation and a T-shirt. However, late registration will be allowed until the day of Camp Turning Points.
We are accepting donations to help off-set the cost of T-shirts for students who are unable to afford this expense and also donations for supplies and materials. A donation form is included in this packet.
We look forward to a successful Camp turning Points and an exciting school year.

WILDCAT ACADEMIC INFORMATION
2011 Academic Reports - A letter from the Superintendent and the 2011 academic reports are now available on the Norman Public Schools website and the NPS app. Copies are also available in the school offfice.
TUTORING AVAILABLE! If you student could use a little extra help with Math or Reading, we now have the following tutors and times available:
Mondays at 3:45 - Mr. Twomey for Math
Tuesdays at 3:45 - Mrs. Ryan for Reading
Wednesdays at 3:45 - Ms. Mimms for Reading
*** TUESDAY TUTORS are still available in the library each Tuesday to assist students in all subjects, as well.
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO MIDDLE SCHOOL LUNCH CHARGE POLICY
When a student's meal account for breakfast or lunch has five charges or more, or an amount that totals more than $10.00, the Child Nutrition Office will contact the parent with a reminder that payment is due and the student will be provided a sandwich and milk until the charges are paid. Current student meal prices are .95 for breakfast and $2.15 for lunch.
